Camp Reveal
The History
In 1917 Ernest “Pappy” Reveal moved from Charleston to Evansville, Indiana and founded the Evansville Rescue Mission to serve and evangelize to men, women and children in Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.
Just ten years later in 1927 he purchased 105 acres of land north of Evansville for $1 and established Camp Reveal. The land included a large old house and two barns Camp Reveal was founded as an overnight summer camp for people struggling with homelessness to escape Evansville city life. Pappy was a brick layer by trade and later built a small stone chapel on the property, which became a special spot of prayer for him.
Today Camp Reveal includes dormitories, dining hall, office, recreational facilities, swimming lake and a chapel. Camp Reveal continues to operate summer camps, retreats, and free sessions for children of low-income families.
